Overheard a guy at the supply yard trash modern brick ties, made me check my own work
Tuesday I was loading up at Allied Building Supply in Tulsa and hear this old timer tell the counter kid that half the ties we use today are junk compared to the 304 stainless ones we used back in the 80s. Got me thinking, so I went back to a house I did in Broken Arrow from 2021 and pulled a few samples. They all held up fine, no rust, no shifting, but his point stuck with me, so now I'm asking every supplier for their heat number or batch cert before I buy. Any of you ever gotten burned by a bad run of ties, or is that just old school paranoia?

Did you check what grade of stainless those 80s ties actually were, cause a lot of that old stuff was 430 and that rusts way worse than most modern 304? I mean, I get being careful, but pulling fine samples from a three year old job sounds like you're looking for a problem that isn't there.
