That $200 humidity dome for my tropical plants was a complete scam

I bought this fancy glass humidity dome from a specialty shop online for $200. Thought it would help my calatheas thrive during winter. After 3 weeks, everything inside got moldy and two of my leaves started rotting. Has anyone else had better luck with just a regular plastic bag over the pot?

Got a question for you @ray_webb6 - did you actually check the airflow on that thing before you bought it? Most of those expensive domes have a tiny vent or none at all, which is exactly what kills plants like calatheas. I've seen people drill small holes in those fancy glass domes to fix the mold problem, but that kind of defeats the purpose of paying $200 for a nice looking piece of glass. A plastic bag with some holes poked in it costs nothing and lets you control the moisture way better.

Two hundred bucks for a humidity dome? That's insane, who even buys that stuff? A plastic bag from the grocery store does the same thing for free. Honestly, you got mold because that fancy dome probably trapped too much moisture with no air flow. Those overpriced accessories are just for looks, not for actual plant health. A simple misting and a pebble tray would've done way more for your calatheas. Never trust anything that costs more than the plant itself.
