Overwatered my Venus flytrap for 3 months straight

I kept my little plant on the kitchen windowsill in Portland and gave it a cup of tap water every morning like clockwork. Found it all black and mushy last Tuesday when I went to water it again. Anyone else kill a carnivorous plant before figuring out they need distilled water?

gave it a cup of tap water every morning like clockwork" - man, that's a LOT of water. But honestly, are we really gonna act like this is some huge tragedy? It's a plant. A cheap plant you can buy for like five bucks at any grocery store. Yeah, you messed up the water situation, but it's not like you killed a family pet. Portland tap water isn't even that bad, I've used it on all my houseplants for years and they're fine. Venus flytraps are just finicky little things that need special treatment, but that's kind of their whole deal. Throw it in the compost and grab another one, this time just use rain water or let the tap sit out overnight. It's really not that serious.

Huh, reminds me of the time I tried to keep a cactus alive by watering it every day... didn't end well either.
