Took a $19 an hour job driving a golf cart around a retirement home and it turned into the best gig I ever had
I took it just to pay rent after getting laid off, figuring I would quit in a month. Turns out I was basically the shuttle driver for 300 people in Sun City, Arizona, and I was outside all day instead of stuck in an office. The tips alone added up to around $400 a month in cash, mostly from guys who just wanted someone to talk to about their old jobs. I learned every shortcut, every shade tree, and which 7am regulars wanted the radio off. Nine months in I got promoted to activities coordinator and I make $23 an hour now with full benefits. Has anyone else taken a job that sounded like a dead end and had it turn into something real?
