The week I almost quit my warehouse job over a 10 cent bolt, and why I'm glad I didn't
Last Tuesday our main conveyor went down at the worst time, right in the middle of a 40 truck day in Columbus. After four hours of guessing, the maintenance guy traced it to a $0.10 shear bolt that nobody had ever bothered to stock, so we lost half a shift over pocket change. Once it was fixed I started logging every little part that fails, and turns out our "boring" maintenance schedule was saving us from a lot worse than one bad afternoon. I stayed because the pay plus the overtime beat any office job I'd had, but man, that day tested me. Anybody else keep a parts log for stuff that looks too dumb to track?
