Thinking back on how we dealt with hand aches in the bindery

Back in the day, we just accepted that our hands would hurt after hours of folding and sewing. Now, I start each session with a few wrist rolls and finger stretches. It seems simple, but it has completely changed how I feel at the end of a long project. It's wild to realize we once saw that pain as just part of the craft.

Totally get that. I used to just power through the ache after long sewing sessions. Now I do a quick hand warm-up, and it's like night and day for how my joints feel. It's wild we used to call that just part of the job.

My grandma stitched for 40 years without any hand warm-ups and her work was flawless. Sometimes I wonder if all this extra care makes us softer, not better. That old school mindset of pushing through built a different kind of stamina we don't see anymore. Maybe calling it part of the job was what gave people real pride in lasting.

Feel the same about my dad's old construction crew.
