Talking with a friend made me question my glue choices

I was chatting with a buddy who restores old texts in Portland, and he said PVA is ruining the hobby for future repair folks. He showed me a book from the 1800s that someone re-glued in the 80s and now the spine is cracked beyond saving. Has anyone else switched back to traditional pastes for anything that might outlive us?
