Warning: I voted for the 700 page novel and our book club died in 6 weeks
Back in March our club of 11 people in Sacramento had to choose between a 220 page mystery and a 700 page family saga for the spring pick, and I pushed hard for the big one because I love a slow burn. We made it to page 300 by week 4, attendance dropped to 4 people at my place on April 18th, and two members quit the group chat saying they felt behind and guilty. Should clubs cap page counts to keep everyone in the same chapter, or is a book that drives half the group away worth it for the few who finish?
