Unpopular opinion: Our book club almost fell apart over picking a 900 page novel
Last Thursday our club met at a coffee shop in Portland and we got into a 45 minute fight about whether long books kill discussion. Half the group wanted to read a 900 page novel next, and the other half said they would just skim it and show up anyway. One guy, Mark, actually said he would rather quit than read 900 pages for a Tuesday meetup. We ended up putting it to a vote and long books lost 7 to 4. Now two people are mad and not talking to the rest of us. How do you all handle it when the group splits on book length?
