That $45 audiobook bundle wrecked our whole book club vote

Our club voted on a 'classic sci-fi mega pack' last month because the price looked great. Turned out three of the five books had terrible audio quality, like someone recorded them in a stairwell. We wasted two meetings trying to discuss a version none of us could hear right. Now I check sample clips before ever suggesting a bundle again. Has anyone else gotten burned by a discount audiobook deal?
