Rant: our club made me read 400 pages in a week and I miss the old way we picked books
Three years back our club in Tacoma would just vote on one book and have four weeks to read it, and it felt easy. Now we each bring a pick and everybody reads all four in under two weeks, which turned book night into a cram session. I liked it better when we argued about one story instead of skimming four. Does anyone else's group do the multi book thing, and is there a middle ground that actually works?
Imagine my shock when my buddy's club pulled the same stunt and I showed up to talk about chapter three while everyone else was still on the back cover. Four books in two weeks isn't a book club, it's a reading marathon with snacks. You want a middle ground? Try two books and three weeks, or just go back to one pick and let people actually finish it. Otherwise you're not discussing stories, you're comparing who skimmed faster.
