Appreciation post: our club's debate nights went from 40 minutes to 2 hours after one small change
Six months ago our book club in Dayton would argue for maybe 40 minutes and then everyone would just sort of nod and go home. Then in March we started having whoever picked the book write down three questions ahead of time and hand them out before we talk. Now our last meeting on Beloved ran a full two hours and we had to cut off the last question because the library was closing. Turns out having something specific to answer keeps people from just repeating what the last person said. Anyone else tried handing out questions beforehand, or do you let the talk go wherever it wants?
