Picked my old Miller over a new inverter, no regrets yet
Had to choose between dragging my 1998 Miller Bobcat to a job in Odessa or renting a new inverter unit for two weeks. I stuck with the Bobcat because I know its habits and didn't want to deal with learning new settings on a tight deadline. The old girl ran hot on every pass, but she got the job done without a hiccup. Has anyone else turned down newer gear just because you trust the older machine more?

The Bobcat from 98 is a tank, no question. But two weeks on a deadline with a rented welder you never touched before sounds like a gamble I would not have taken either. Those old Millers just have a feel to them, you know when it's going to run right before you even strike an arc. New stuff is fine but it doesn't forgive a bad setting like the old girl does. Glad it paid off for you out in Odessa, that heat alone can turn a simple job sideways.
