Power hammer died mid job, hand hammering 16 bars saved me
Last Tuesday my 25 lb Little Giant seized up right when I was halfway through a railing order for a client in Boise. The bearing basically shredded itself, no warning at all. I had 16 bars of 1/2 inch square stock already heated and no way to run them through the dies. So I grabbed my 4 lb rounding hammer and just worked through them one at a time, slow and steady. It took me 6 hours instead of 90 minutes, but honestly the hand work came out cleaner on the scrolls. Has anyone else had a machine fail mid production and found the manual route actually improved the piece?
