Update: got doored on my Tuesday commute and the guy's insurance is fighting me
Riding down a busy street near downtown Portland on Tuesday morning, a driver swung his door open right as I passed and I went over the bars. My helmet cracked and my front wheel is taco'd, but I walked away with just a scraped elbow and a sore shoulder. A witness got the guy's plate and he admitted fault at the scene, but his insurance is now saying I was "riding too close to parked cars." I've got a $180 estimate for the wheel and a $90 helmet to replace, plus two days of bus fare since my bike is out. I was doing maybe 14 mph and riding where I always do in that bike lane. Has anyone dealt with an insurance company pulling this? What did you say to get them to stop blaming you?
