Unpopular opinion: the Canal St bridge detour in Manchester is safer than the main road
I ride past the Fisher Cats stadium every morning and last Tuesday they closed the left lane on the main drag for paving, so I got pushed onto the old Canal St bridge route for 6 days straight. Turns out the detour adds about 4 minutes but I hit zero doors and only 2 cars the whole time, compared to dodging parked delivery vans on the usual road. Am I crazy for thinking about making the detour my permanent route, or has anyone else found their "backup" way beats the one they've ridden for years?
