Wrote off bearing grease as overkill for my commuter until a rainy week in Portland changed my mind
I used to just hit my bottom bracket and hub bearings with whatever light oil was on the bench and call it done, figured on a bike that sees maybe 50 miles a week in wet weather it was all the same. Then a customer brought back his winter beater after 3 weeks because the hubs felt like gravel, and when I cracked them open the oil was gone and the races were pitted, so I switched to a thick marine grease and his second set ran the whole season silent. Any of you running something heavier than standard bike grease for wet commuters, or am I just overdoing it now?
