Update on my stance about ceramic speed pulleys

Talked to a frame builder at the Philly Bike Expo who said, 'They're great for pros, but for 99% of riders, that money is better spent on a drivetrain that shifts well and gets replaced on time.' That really stuck with me. Anyone else think we over-spec certain high-end parts?

Remember my buddy who bought those fancy pulleys for his commuter bike. He bragged about the watts saved, but his chain was so old it skipped on every hill. Ended up spending his weekend fixing a basic problem he created by chasing a pro upgrade.

My old road bike had a creaky bottom bracket for months. I finally spent the thirty bucks to replace it and the difference was way bigger than any pulley upgrade.
