Broke a crank bolt on a customer's bike in Bay City and had to improvise with a tap
About six months ago I was pulling a seized crank arm off a 90s mountain bike in my one-car garage shop in Bay City. The bolt was frozen so hard that my breaker bar snapped the head clean off, and I still had 20 minutes before the guy showed up. I drilled it out, ran a 5/16 tap through the spindle, and swapped in a shorter bolt I had in a coffee can of spares. He never knew a thing, but that can of random bolts has saved me maybe four jobs since then. What do you all keep around for when a simple pull turns into a whole rescue mission?
