Appreciation post: the old guy at Boulevard Bikes in Chicago who showed me a spoke trick with a dollar bill
I was killing time at Boulevard Bikes on Milwaukee Ave last Saturday while my partner shopped next door, and the mechanic there was truing a wheel with a dollar bill folded under the spoke nipple. He said he picked it up in the 80s and it keeps him from scratching alloy rims when he's rushing. I've been using a plastic tire lever for that job for 6 years and never thought about it. Anyone else got weird little shop tricks like this that actually work?
