Vent: my Baratza grinder jammed right before the morning rush
Last Tuesday at 6 AM the burrs locked up on my Encore with a bag of dark roast that was oilier than usual. I had to tear it down with a hex key and canned air, took 40 minutes and I missed my first cup before work. Has anyone else hit this with oily beans, or should I just stick to medium roasts from now on?

That dark roast oil is a real pain, my friend. I had a bag of beans once so shiny they looked glazed, and my grinder sounded like it was chewing gravel for a week after. Ended up running a cup of dry rice through it, which helped but made everything smell like a rice cake for a while. The whole cleanup turned into this big production, and I just stood there in my kitchen at dawn wondering why I even bother with fancy coffee. You're not crazy for questioning the roast level, but I also think there's something to be said for just accepting the occasional grinder meltdown as part of the hobby. Medium roasts are safer, sure, but where's the adventure in that?
