The $6 thermometer that made me relearn my drip machine
I brewed the same way for 3 years with my old drip maker, never checking the actual water temp. Then I picked up a cheap probe thermometer at a garage sale in Portland and found my brew water was sitting at 185°F instead of the 200°F I assumed. Recalibrated my grind size and wait time, now the cup tastes totally different, has anyone else had a gear issue that was just a temp sensor problem?
Right, because the secret to good coffee was hiding in a six dollar garage sale find, not in the three years of trial and error that apparently meant nothing. Nothing like finding out your morning ritual was basically making fancy warm water with a coffee stain. Next you'll tell me the oven thermometer has been lying about the turkey this whole time too. Guess I should start checking my toaster's "bagel" setting with a laser gun next, just to be safe.
