Used a $2 competitor coupon at my grocery store and the cashier actually took it

I clipped a $2 off coupon for a brand my store does not even sell and figured the worst that could happen was a shrug at checkout. The cashier scanned it anyway and the register took it, so my total dropped from $34 to $32 on stuff I was buying regardless. Is this a glitch I should stop doing, or do other stores just not care about matching the brand?
