My old Linksys router was dropping wifi every night at 8pm until I put it on a lamp timer from Ace Hardware
For about 3 weeks my wifi kept dying right around 8pm and I could not figure out why, rebooting the router every night like some kind of fool. Turned out the thing was overheating in the little cabinet under my TV, so I dug out an old mechanical lamp timer from the garage and set it to cut power for 60 seconds at 3am instead. Now it runs cool all day and I have not touched it in 4 months, which is wild for a router I bought used for $15 at a flea market in Tulsa. The timer was $9 at Ace and honestly it works better than any firmware update I ever did on that thing. Anyone else keeping ancient hardware alive with dumb analog tricks like this?

Ha, I read somewhere that routers actually lose a chunk of their speed when they get too hot, so you probably fixed two problems at once. Some guy on a forum said he runs a tiny desk fan on his old one and swears it stopped the nightly crashes too. Wild what these old boxes can do with a little airflow.
