I finally added up what I spent on old iPod parts and accessories over 2 years...

It started innocent enough. Found my old 5th gen iPod in a box, battery was toast. Figured I'd spend maybe $15 on a replacement battery. Then I needed a new click wheel because mine was sticky. Then I saw a guy on YouTube with a clear shell and thought that looked cool. Flash mod, bigger battery, new headphone jack, different colored faceplate. Two years later I actually sat down and added it all up from my Amazon and eBay history. $347. That's what I spent to keep a 20 year old music player running when my phone does everything it does better. And guess what? The hard drive finally died last month and I can't even find a replacement that works. Has anyone else fallen down the iPod rabbit hole like this or am I the only one who can't let go?

Isn't it wild how we'll drop $347 on nostalgia for something that's objectively obsolete, when the same thing happens with everything from vintage cars to old game consoles? We just get attached to the past and our wallets take the hit.

Dude, are you me? I did the EXACT same thing with my 4th gen, started with a $10 battery and ended up around the $300 mark before I finally stopped myself. It's like you get obsessed with making it perfect and then the real cost sneaks up on you. I feel your pain on that hard drive though, that's a brutal way to find out the whole project was basically a lost cause.
