Had to pick between a 2005 ThinkPad and a 2012 MacBook for my daily writer machine

Last month my main laptop died, so I dug through my closet and found two old junkers. One was a crusty ThinkPad T43 from 2005 with a dead battery and a 40GB hard drive. The other was a 2012 MacBook Pro with a cracked trackpad but decent specs. I went with the ThinkPad because I needed a keyboard that didn't suck, and XP still runs my favorite word processor fine. It takes 4 minutes to boot and I can't use the internet on it, but I've written 30,000 words in three weeks without distractions. Has anyone else made a weird retro choice for work and actually stuck with it?

Dude honestly this POST completely changed my mind about old tech. I used to think people who used vintage computers were just being hipsters or weirdos. But reading how you churned out 30k words on that T43 is seriously impressive. There's something to be said for a machine that literally CAN'T distract you because it's too slow for the internet. My modern laptop is basically a distraction machine with Twitter and YouTube always one click away. You made me realize that sometimes the LIMITATIONS are actually the whole point. I might actually dig out my old netbook and give this a shot.
