Was sectioning hair backward for a decade until Brenda set me straight
I've been doing fades the same way for like 10 years. Sectioniing hair from the bottom up, thought that was just how it worked. Last Tuesday, a regular named Brenda watched me work and asked why I was fighting gravity. She showed me how starting from the top gives you cleaner lines and less combing. Has anyone else had a client point out a basic thing you've been missing for years?
Fighting gravity" is a good way to put it. I read a blog from a barber in Chicago who said the same thing. He claimed top-down sectioning saved him on average 12 minutes per fade.
12 minutes adds up fast over a week, but I wonder if that number changes depending on hair texture or density. Would be curious to see someone test that with coarse vs fine hair side by side.
