Serious question, heard a client say he only gets his hair cut at a chain place in Omaha because it's 'consistent'
He was talking about a Great Clips, saying he goes there because he knows exactly what he'll get every time, no surprises. It made me think about how we balance speed and personal touch in our own shops. Has anyone found a good way to explain the value of a real barber's skill to someone who just wants the same basic trim?

Yeah but that "consistency" is just a boring haircut that fights your natural hair growth. A real barber works with what you've got so it actually looks good as it grows out.

Man, that's a classic. I had a guy say the same thing about a chain. I just asked him if he ever left one feeling actually good, not just "okay." I told him my job is to look at his hairline, his cowlicks, how his hair actually grows, and cut it for him. A chain just runs the same template over every head. It's like the difference between a microwave dinner and a meal cooked for you.
