Spent $45 on a cheap moisture meter, and my cherry tomatoes paid for it
When I first started on my 3rd floor balcony in Portland, I watered by poking my finger in the dirt like everyone says, and I lost two rounds of basil that way. So I grabbed a $45 moisture meter off Amazon and it felt dumb at the time, but it stopped me from drowning my peppers in that cramped 10 inch pot. Three summers later I still use it every other morning before work, and my cherry tomatoes have gone from sad little green marbles to actual fruit. The thing is, the cheap $12 one I bought first died in a month, so the upgrade was worth it. Has anyone else had luck with a meter, or do you just trust the finger test?
