Grew lettuce in a cracked dollar store dish rack on my fire escape in Chicago, and it somehow outproduced my pots
The trick was just laying an old cotton t-shirt over the slats and keeping it soaked with a $6 spray bottle twice a day, since the fabric held water way better than soil in those shallow trays, so has anyone else tried cloth wicking instead of buying a self watering planter?
