Can we talk about whether those self-watering pots are actually worth the cash?

I dropped about $75 on a set of three last spring, and while they saved my tomatoes during a hot week away, my basil rotted from the constant wet feet, so I'm torn on if they're a smart buy or a problem waiting to happen for a small balcony setup.

Wait you spent seventy five dollars on three pots? That's wild, I got a similar set for like thirty bucks last year. Those prices are all over the place, it's crazy. No wonder you're mad they didn't work perfectly, that's a huge chunk of change for something that killed your basil. You really have to know which plants can handle the wet soil or it's a total waste.

Why would you buy a special pot to drown your plants? Those things are basically a swamp for roots that don't like wet soil, and they cost way too much for that. Just get a regular pot and a cheap watering spike if you need to go away.
