My lemon bars were a brick at the block party

Took my lemon bars to the neighborhood gathering, thinking they'd be a hit. They came out so dense you could barely bite them, and my neighbor's kid asked if they were building blocks. Ever have a bake go so wrong it made a whole crowd quiet?

Totally feel your pain on the brick-like bake. Remember bringing rock-hard cookies to a potluck that nobody touched. My cousin tried one and said it sounded like crunching gravel. How do we mess up simple recipes so badly? Had to toss the whole batch after that silent judgment. Makes you want to stick to store-bought, right?

Seriously, @the_adam? Store-bought can't compare to homemade if you nail the recipe. Was the oven too hot or something?
