Hit exactly 350 degrees on my oven thermometer after years of guessing

My old oven dial was off by almost 25 degrees, which explains why my cookies were always underdone. Anyone else found a big difference with a simple oven thermometer?

Man, that hits home. My oven was basically a mystery box for years. I'd put in what should have been perfect garlic bread and get a sad, pale slab, or crank it for pizza and end up with a charcoal frisbee. @ivan211 is right about the burning thing, my broiler setting was a total war crime. Finally got a cheap thermometer and felt like I unlocked a secret cooking level.

Remember those old dial ovens with no numbers? My grandma's was like that, just a vague spectrum from warm to volcano... you had to learn its moods by burning a few offerings. Makes you wonder how anyone baked anything before digital readouts.

Yeah, same here. My old oven ran hot and I burned a lot of stuff before I checked.
