Burned through 4 batches of cookies at my grandma's house before I realized her oven runs 50 degrees hot
I was visiting her in Phoenix last summer and kept pulling out hockey pucks until my cousin mentioned she'd had it recalibrated wrong for 6 years, has anyone else dealt with a crazy off temp oven?

Wait, your grandma just let you turn her kitchen into a hockey puck factory for 6 years without saying anything? That's either the most patient woman alive or she really wanted you to learn some kind of life lesson about baking. I swear ovens are the most passive-aggressive appliances ever, they'll sit there lying to your face for years and nobody even thinks to question them. My buddy had a similar thing with his gas oven that was running 75 degrees low, took him a whole Thanksgiving dinner of raw turkey to figure it out. At least now you know to grab an oven thermometer before you even trust that thing again.

Huh, you know what, I used to think oven thermometers were just something old school bakers used because they were stubborn about their recipes. I was totally wrong about that. After my third batch of cookies came out looking like coasters, I finally bought one of those cheap little hanging thermometers and found out my oven was running 50 degrees hotter than the dial said. It got me thinking about how much time people waste blaming themselves or their recipes when it's actually just their oven lying to them every single day. Your buddy's raw turkey story is exactly what I mean, how many Thanksgivings got ruined because nobody thought to double check the one thing controlling the whole meal? Now I'm the guy who tells everyone to buy a $5 thermometer before they spend another dollar on baking ingredients.
