Walked into a bakery two towns over and caught the owner dusting flour off day old loaves to sell as fresh
I was in Bristol on Tuesday picking up a cake order for my kid's birthday and while I waited I watched the owner pull yesterday's sourdough off a rack, brush the flour off, and stack it right up front with the new stuff. I said something quiet to the girl at the counter and she just shrugged like it was normal, so now I'm wondering if I'm the crazy one for thinking that's shady. How do you all handle stale loaves at your shops, because I always thought day old should be marked or discounted, not dressed up?
