Tried a 56k modem last month just to see if dialup was as bad as the old ads said, and the BBS loaded faster than my Comcast
Pulled a US Robotics out of a box at a garage sale in Cleveland for $8, hooked it to an old Dell, and dialed into a local BBS. The whole thing felt like time travel. Those 1996 magazine ads screaming about the "information superhighway" got it half right, but nobody predicted I'd be waiting 30 seconds for a text only page and finding it less annoying than a modern site with 40 popups. Anyway, does anyone else here have a junk drawer modem they've fired up, or am I the last guy doing this?
