I put a $2 rubber band on my game controller and it fixed my aim, but part of me thinks it's a crutch
I kept losing gunfights in Apex by a hair, so about 3 weeks ago I tried wrapping a rubber band around the right stick of my PS5 controller to add tension. My aim actually got steadier that same night and my K/D went from 1.2 to 1.6 over about 10 days, which honestly feels too easy. Now I can't tell if I'm actually getting better or just leaning on a $2 band, and I'm scared to take it off and find out. Some people say anything that helps your hands is fair game, others say it's basically a cheat for people with sloppy thumbs. Has anyone else tried messing with stick tension or grips and did you ever go back to stock?
So the thing nobody wants to say out loud is that the rubber band is doing the work your thumb should be learning to do. You added resistance and your aim got better because the stick quit wobbling when you panic squeeze it, that is not skill, that is a physical fix for a sloppy input. Take it off for a week and log your K/D, and if it tanks back to 1.2 then yeah, you were never getting better, you were just propping up bad habits. Pros mess with tension and grips too, sure, but they also spent years building the thumb control first, so the band is a small tweak on top of a real base, not the whole base. You are scared to test it because deep down you already know the answer.
