Ctrl+F is dead, long live regex finds in huge codebases

I spent 4 hours last Tuesday chasing a bug in a 12k line config file in Austin. Ctrl+F kept missing duplicates because of hidden whitespace and line endings. Learned that using regex with \s* caught everything in one pass. Has anyone else hit this wall with big search and replace jobs?
