A coworker's hot take on game remasters made me flip my position
I was complaining to my desk neighbor Dave about the new classic RPG remaster, calling it a cash grab. He said the original's clunky UI and outdated pacing weren't sacred, they were just barriers to new players. At first I got defensive, but then I pulled up my playtime stats and saw I had quit that game twice back in 2018 for the same reasons he listed. Now I'm actually looking forward to the QoL updates, even if I still side-eye the $70 price tag. Anyone else done a 180 on remasters after someone put it that plainly?
Did you ever go back and play a game you loved as a kid and realize the camera was fighting you the whole time? Happened to me with an old platformer last year. I remembered it as perfect, then spent twenty minutes wrestling with the controls before it clicked that my memory had smoothed all the rough parts out. It is like your brain edits out the bad stuff on purpose, which is maybe why remasters bug people at first. Once you see the cracks yourself, the fixes stop feeling like an insult.
