Vent: That zip tie obsession that's ruining everyone's cable setups
I keep seeing pics in here where people just wrap zip ties around every cord like it's gonna solve the problem. Tightening them down all the way till the cable bends - that's how you mess up your wires over time. My buddy Mike in Phoenix had to replace his whole surround sound system because he cranked zip ties on the speaker cables and they shorted out after 6 months. Why don't people just use velcro straps or at least leave some slack?

I gotta disagree a little. Zip ties have been fine for me as long as you just hand tighten them and leave a tiny bit of room for the cable to move. Mike's problem might have been more about how he ran the cables or something with his specific setup. Velcro straps work great too but they're way more expensive for big jobs and they don't hold as tight if you're trying to keep things clean behind a desk. Idk, maybe I'm just lucky but I've never had a cable short out from a zip tie.

Those $1 packs of 100 zip ties from Harbor Freight are hard to beat for the price honestly lol.
