Found my old server rack photos and cringed hard
I was digging through Google Photos from like 2012 and found shots of my first home server setup. I kid you not, I had CAT5 cables literally zip tied to a ceiling joist in a tangled loop (no slack management at all). It took me 45 minutes just to trace one dead port last week because the labels had faded to nothing. Has anyone else looked back at their old cabling jobs and wanted to go back in time to slap yourself?

45 minutes to trace one port because the labels faded? That's actually brutal. I'd be pulling my hair out after the first 10 minutes. The zip ties on a ceiling joist thing is making my eye twitch too, like who thought that was a good idea long term. At least you didn't cable manage with electrical tape like I saw in a buddy's basement once, that was a nightmare to undo. The best part is you kept the pictures, so future-you gets to relive the horror anytime you want.

Gotta ask, did you take pictures of the electrical tape mess too? I've seen that stuff turn into a sticky, gooey nightmare after a few years in a hot attic. Makes me wonder what @taylorcarr's buddy was thinking. Zip ties are bad enough but at least they cut clean. Tape just bonds to everything and leaves residue you can't scrub off. I'd take a hundred faded labels over that any day.
