Warning: found 2 of my hens dead Monday morning and I still do not know what got in
Honestly this week has wrecked me. I went out at 6am Monday to open the coop and found two of my Buff Orpingtons dead on the floor with no blood, just torn up feathers near the pop door. Whatever it was did not eat them, it just killed them and left, which makes me think mink or weasel. I spent $140 on hardware cloth 2 months ago and wrapped the whole run, so I have zero clue how it got in until I found a gap the size of a golf ball where my coop meets the roof panel. Six birds are left and I have been sleeping terrible all week, going out with a flashlight at 11pm like a crazy person. My neighbor in Salem says he lost 4 to a raccoon reaching through a gap in the rafters last fall. Has anyone used those motion sprinklers around the coop, and do they actually keep weasels off or am I wasting money?
