Spent $75 on a fancy automatic coop door that my birds hated
I bought this solar powered door that was supposed to open at sunrise and close at dusk, but my Rhode Island Reds refused to go near it for a solid week. I ended up taking it down and going back to my old manual latch, so that money is just gone. Has anyone else had a flock that just rejects a new piece of gear like that?

Used to think my birds would adapt to anything if it made my life easier. Bought a similar door last year and my whole flock staged a sit-in protest on the ramp. They just huddled outside until I manually opened it, completely defeating the point. It was a total waste, and I felt like a sucker for falling for the marketing. Now I realize chickens are just tiny, stubborn dinosaurs with zero interest in our gadgets. That experience taught me to test any new gear with extreme caution before fully committing.

Man, my flock actually loved their automatic door after a rough start. I had to lock them inside with it for a few days so they got used to the sound, and now they line up at dusk waiting for it to close. Maybe it's just about giving them time to learn it's not a monster.
