PSA: A wrong turn put me in a silly spot with trail runners
I took a detour on the Appalachian Trail and bumped into a group of fast packers going the other way. They laughed and said my planned route was too slow, which felt kind of awkward. Ever have a funny moment when your hiking pace didn't match up with others?

Who cares, go your own speed.
Those people are missing the whole point. If you're just racing through, you don't see anything. It's like blasting past a dirty driveway without noticing the details. The woods are for enjoying, not for setting a record. Let them laugh while they hurry to the next spot.

Yeah, the "fast packers" thing cracks me up. I read a blog once that called those types "F1 hikers" - all the latest gear, moving in a peloton, treating the trail like a race course. Getting judged for your pace is so weird when you're just out there to enjoy the woods.
