Spent 4 hours chasing a phantom fuel gauge fault in a King Air last Tuesday
Last Tuesday at our hangar in Wichita I got handed a squawk about the left fuel gauge reading low on a King Air 200. I pulled the panel, checked the sender unit, rang out the wiring harness, everything looked clean. I spent 4 hours swapping connectors and reseating pins before my lead walked over, looked at the gauge for two seconds, and asked if I checked the ground strap on the wing root. Turned out a mechanic doing a flap rigging job two days earlier left the bonding strap loose, and the whole fault was just a bad ground. I felt like a total rookie with 12 years on the floor. We laughed about it after, but I still wrote it in my logbook so I don't forget. Anyone else got a story where the fix was way simpler than the hunt?
