Changed my mind about enclosed trailers after hauling my dad's truck from Phoenix
Three years ago I told my brother he was wasting $400 extra putting his Camaro on an enclosed trailer for the trip to Denver, and I gave him grief about it for weeks. Last week I moved my dad's 1971 F-100 from Phoenix to Albuquerque and the open carrier quoted me $650, while the enclosed one came in at $950. I went with the enclosed on a gut feeling, and when the driver pulled in, I found road grit caked on the roof of my brother's old trailer but not one scratch on the truck. The guy told me he sees paint chips and cracked windshields on open hauls every single week, mostly from gravel kicked up on I-40. So yeah, I ate my words and now I'm the one telling people to spend the extra money. What's the price gap where you'd switch to open and just take the risk?
