Had a radiator hose split on I-40 in Nashville during rush hour last Friday
I was stuck on the shoulder for 45 minutes waiting for a tow, and the shop charged me $280 to replace a $15 hose because they had to flush the whole cooling system from the mess it made - has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a big bill like that?

You call $280 a big bill, but that flush saved your engine from overheating and cracking.

Bro come on, $280 is still a lot for a hose that costs $15. Yeah the flush is important but they probably marked it up like crazy for the labor too. A good shop would have just replaced the hose and topped off the coolant for way less. Feels like they took advantage of you being stranded in Nashville with no other options.
