Serious question, how many of you are actually torqueing lug nuts to spec and not just hitting them with the impact?
I keep seeing this in shops around here and it drives me up a wall. Had a car come in last week with warped rotors on the front, and the guy before me had hammered the lugs on with an impact until they were way past spec, so the rotor was pulled uneven and the customer paid for a job he didn't need. The spec on most of these is somewhere around 80 to 100 ft-lbs, and a torque wrench takes maybe 30 extra seconds per wheel. I get it when you're slammed on a Friday, but that habit comes back as comeback work and a customer who thinks you did a bad job. Are the rest of you seeing this come through your bays too, or is it just the shops in my area that let it slide?
