My old shop teacher said to always torque lug nuts by hand first, and after 3 broken studs last month I finally get it
Back in vo-tech in 2008, Mr. Davenport made us spin every lug nut on by hand before touching the impact. I rolled my eyes for years and zipped them on with the gun like everyone else. Last month on a 2014 Civic, I cross threaded two studs on the same wheel and snapped a third, all because I got lazy and started them with the impact at an angle. Cost me $40 in studs and about an hour of extra work on a car that should have been out the door in 20 minutes. Any of you still starting lugs by hand, or did you find a trick that keeps the gun from biting?
