Had a talk with a retired fleet mechanic that made me rethink my whole approach to rust prevention

I was working on a 2018 F-150 with 120k miles at the shop in Akron last Thursday, and an old guy named Jerry who used to run a fleet of plow trucks up in Buffalo stopped by. He told me I was wasting time with those spray-on undercoatings and that the real trick is using fluid film and reapplying it every fall before the salt hits. It hit different because he showed me pictures of his personal truck with 250k miles and zero rust, and now I'm wondering if I've been doing this wrong for years. Any of you guys swear by one method over the other for northern cars?

Does he coat the frame rails or just the undercarriage?

Oh, he definitely does the frame rails too. Seen a bunch of his builds.
